Large-scale scheme of embezzlement of almost UAH 3 billion on supply of low-quality mines exposed

Law enforcement agencies exposed a large-scale corruption scheme involving the embezzlement of almost UAH 3 billion during the supply of mines for the defence needs of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the state received a significant part of the ammunition from serious and dangerous manufacturing defects, and some of the contracted products were not delivered at all.


Details of the case

  • The following were served with a notice of suspicion 10 people.

  • The defendants include the management of the supplier company, accountants and military officials.

  • Four suspects were detained.

  • The facts of supplying mines with critical defects that could pose a direct threat to the security of the military were established.

  • Some of the paid for batches of ammunition were not delivered to the customer.

Investigative actions are currently underway to check the full extent of the damage caused and the possible range of persons involved.


Context.

Amid a full-scale war, the issue of defence procurement is under special control of the state and society. The detection of corruption schemes in the supply of ammunition directly affects the defence capability, security of the military and the trust of international partners.

Earlier, law enforcement agencies have repeatedly stated that they would strengthen control over defence contracts, in particular in terms of product quality and transparency of funding.
