Parliament cancels the State External Independent Assessment and approves new NMT rules for the 2026 admission campaign
The Verkhovna Rada has adopted new rules for the state final examination and the 2026 admission campaign. The main decision is cancellation of the State Examination in the current format and preserving the model NMT as the main assessment tool for admission.
This decision is intended to simplify the testing procedure in times of war and ensure equal conditions for all students, regardless of their place of residence.
Mandatory subjects
The structure of the National Multidisciplinary Test will include three basic disciplines:
Ukrainian language
Mathematics
History of Ukraine
Subjects to choose from
Applicants will be able to choose one additional subject from the list:
foreign language (English, German, French or Spanish)
biology
geography
physics
chemistry
Ukrainian literature
This format will allow students to adapt the test to their chosen speciality and real learning needs.
Context.
The transition to NMT as the only form of assessment has been underway since 2022. The format is considered to be more flexible and secure, as it allows testing in shelters and even abroad.
In 2026, the Ministry of Education and Science plans to introduce updated approaches to digital identification and electronic offices for applicants.
