Andriy Parubiy is posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine

President Zelensky signed a decree on awarding the title of Hero of Ukraine To Andriy Parubiy. The award was posthumously given to Afanasiev, Chubenko and Vakulenko.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree awarding the title of Hero of Ukraine to Andriy Parubiy posthumously.

In addition, three other Ukrainians who gave their lives in the struggle for Ukraine's freedom and independence received the highest state award:

• Gennadiy Afanasiev - is a Crimean activist persecuted by the Russian authorities;

• Stepan Chubenko - a young patriot from Kramatorsk, executed by militants in 2014;

• Vladimir Vakulenko - is a Ukrainian writer who was kidnapped and murdered by the Russian occupiers during the full-scale war.

A symbolic tribute

The President emphasised that these people had become symbols of courage, resistance and devotion to Ukraine. Their stories will forever remain in the national memory.
