Russian attack leaves hundreds of settlements without electricity

On the night of 27 September, Russian troops launched another attack on the energy infrastructure of Chernihiv region. As a result of the shelling, 177 settlements in Pryluky and Nizhyn districts were left without electricity.

This was reported by the press service of the «Chernihivoblenergo». According to the company, emergency crews are already working to restore power supply, but the extent of the damage is significant.


Restoration work continues

Power engineers say that key infrastructure facilities were hit, leading to massive power outages.

«Our specialists are currently doing everything possible to restore power supply as soon as possible. However, due to the scale of the damage, the process may take some time,» Chernihivoblenergo said.

According to preliminary data, both high-voltage lines and transformer substations were damaged.


Context.

Since the beginning of September, Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure in an attempt to disrupt the country's preparations for the autumn and winter season. The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Energy emphasise that attacks on civilian energy facilities constitute a war crime and have signs of genocidal policy.
