Company. DTEK Kyiv Electricity Networks announced the introduction of emergency outage schedules (EOS) in the Kyiv region. The reason is a sharp increase in electricity shortages following nighttime missile and drone attacks on energy facilities.
According to the energy sector, the system has suffered serious damage in several regions, which has led to grid overload and the need to urgently balance consumption.
Where outages are likely to occur
The lights will be switched off in all districts of the Kyiv region in turn - according to the schedules published on DTEK's official website.
Scheduled outages may continue 2 to 4 hours at different hours of the day. The company emphasises that in case of critical damage or power shortages, schedules may change without notice.
In addition to Kyiv region, blackouts are also in effect in Sumy, Poltava, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro regions. Power engineers there are working to restore substations and power lines that were damaged by Russian strikes.
Reasons for the restrictions
Russian shelling on the night of 10 October caused a partial shutdown of generating facilities and the destruction of several transformer substations.
Ukrenergo explained that in order to stabilise the power system, it is necessary to temporarily reduce the load on the network. That is why energy companies have been instructed to apply emergency schedules.
What residents should do
Power engineers call on citizens use electricity rationally, especially in the evening - from 17:00 to 23:00.
It is recommended not to turn on several powerful appliances at the same time, use household appliances during the day if possible, and follow the schedule updates in the DTEK Kyiv Electricity Networks and Light apps.
«We ask residents to be understanding. We are doing everything we can to restore stable power supply and minimise the duration of outages,» the company said.
