The delivery is part of Canberra's military assistance to Ukraine and is aimed at strengthening the armoured capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The transferred tanks are part of Australia's stockpile and have already undergone the necessary training before shipment.
The Abrams M1A1 is considered one of the most protected tanks in the world and is capable of operating effectively in intense combat operations.
