Massive power and heating cuts in Belgorod
Large-scale power and heating outages have been reported in Belgorod. Some districts were left without basic utilities, which is especially noticeable in winter.
Local residents report dark residential areas, cold apartments and difficulties getting around the city.
Domestic consequences of a power outage
The power outage affected not only the lighting in the buildings. It was also due to the lack of power:
people get stuck in lifts;
traffic lights are not working, causing traffic jams;
The operation of transport and services is hampered.
Such consequences are typical of accidents in urban infrastructure, especially during frost.
The context of the border region
The Belgorod region regularly finds itself in a zone of tension due to its proximity to the border with Ukraine and military events. Damage to the energy infrastructure in the border regions of the Russian Federation periodically leads to temporary blackouts and interruptions in heat supply.
Incidents like these demonstrate the vulnerability of civilian infrastructure in a prolonged war.
