First ever licensed launch of Ukrainian drones in the UK

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal announced the signing of a licence agreement that opens up the possibility of mass production of Ukrainian Octopus interceptor drones in the UK. This is the first time that Ukrainian defence technology has been officially transferred to Western production facilities.

According to Shmyhal, British companies will be able to produce several thousand units per month, This will significantly increase Ukraine's capabilities in combating air attacks.

Octopus is one of the most effective interceptors of the Shahed«

The Octopus drone is a Ukrainian autonomous interceptor that:

- detects targets using the on-board navigation system;
- operates autonomously without operator control;
- intercepts and destroys enemy UAVs, including Shahideen;
- It has high speed, manoeuvrability and minimal cost compared to missile air defence systems.

The Ukrainian military assesses Octopus as one of the most effective means of countering massive attacks.

The entire volume produced is for Ukraine

The agreement provides that All drones manufactured in the UK will be supplied exclusively to Ukraine. This will allow:

- increase the pace of rearmament;
- increase the number of interceptors in key areas;
- reduce the load on air defence missiles;
- improve the effectiveness of protecting cities and critical infrastructure.

Context.

The decision to produce the drones came amid a new wave of Russian attacks with drones and missiles, when Ukrainian cities need a large number of interceptors every day. Britain became the first country to agree to produce a Ukrainian military drone under licence.
