Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kirill Budanov said that Russia aims to completely de-energise Ukraine through massive missile and drone strikes on energy infrastructure.

He spoke about this in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Foglio.

«The Russians want to cause a complete blackout in Ukraine. This is their strategic goal this winter,» Budanov said.


Ukrainians have become more prepared for blackouts

Despite the threat of new attacks, the intelligence chief noted that Ukraine is better prepared this time to possible power outages.

«The middle class already has equipment that helps during power outages - generators, power stations, batteries. This makes us more resilient,» he explained.

Budanov also emphasised that energy infrastructure reinforced and partially dispersed, This makes it difficult for the enemy to completely cut off the country's power supply.
