«Ukraine's »red lines' in peace talks
Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk voiced Ukraine's key «red lines» that cannot be violated during potential peace talks with Russia. He said this in a commentary published by the Gordon.ua.
Three non-negotiable principles
According to Stefanchuk, Ukraine will not consider any proposals, which include:
Recognition of the occupation of Ukrainian territories Russia;
limiting the size of the Defence Forces of Ukraine or limiting defensive capabilities;
external veto Ukraine's right to join international blocs and alliances (including the EU and NATO).
Stefanchuk stressed that these conditions are fundamental, and Ukraine will not accept compromises that undermine its sovereignty.
Context.
The topic of peace talks appears in international discourse from time to time, but official Kyiv has repeatedly stressed that dialogue is possible only if international law and Ukraine's borders are respected. The parliament's position reflects the state's overall strategy regarding security guarantees and the future Euro-Atlantic course.
