The Verkhovna Rada has adopted draft law No. 14103 on amendments to the State Budget for 2025 as a basis and in general. The document provides for an increase in spending on the defence sector by UAH 324.7 billion, which is one of the largest budget revisions since the start of the full-scale war, the Ukrinform.
Where the additional funds will go
According to government officials, the majority of the additional funding will be used to:
providing the Armed Forces of Ukraine with modern weapons and ammunition;
development of the defence industry;
Increasing the salaries of military personnel;
restoration of critical infrastructure facilities destroyed as a result of russian attacks.
The Ministry of Finance has clarified that the defence sector's financing in 2025 will exceed 50 % of total public spending.
Government position
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stressed that the decision is a response to security challenges and confirms the state's readiness to support the country's defence capability to the maximum extent possible.
«Every hryvnia is used to protect our people, our army and our independence,» the Prime Minister said.
Next steps
The law will come into force after being signed by the President and officially promulgated.
The government is already preparing additional changes to the budget plan to allocate funds to the most important areas of the defence sector.
