«The »attack on Chernihiv" is an information operation of the Russian Federation: CPJ denies Russian fake news

The National Security and Defence Council's Countering Disinformation Centre said that the theses spread by Russian channels about the alleged «preparation of an offensive on Chernihiv» are another a cognitive operation against Ukraine.

According to the CPJ, Russia has no real capabilities to launch a full-scale offensive in this direction.

The purpose of the Kremlin's operation

The CPA explains:
Russians use such fakes to:

  • to exert psychological pressure on Ukrainian society,

  • create panic,

  • to create the illusion that the Russian army is able to act simultaneously on all frontline areas,

  • load the information space with disinformation.

This is a classic technique undermining confidence in Ukrainian defence.

The situation is under control

Ukrainian defence forces are in full control of the situation in Chernihiv region.
Any provocations at the border:

  • are promptly suppressed,

  • do not pose a threat to the region,

  • show no signs of preparing for an offensive.

Officials urge citizens to trust only verified sources.
