CEC reopens State Voter Register for the first time since the beginning of the invasion

Central Election Commission resumes work for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion State Register of Voters. This was announced by the head of the Servant of the People faction« David Arahamia.

According to him, the decision was made by a resolution of the CEC and is part of preparatory measures for the possible holding of elections under martial law.

What does registry recovery mean?

Arakhamia emphasised that the registry would resume its work:

  • opens the way for the CEC to resume its interaction with citizens and authorities;

  • allows updating electoral data to reflect changes in demographics;

  • є basic technical condition for any future elections.

At the same time, he stressed that It is not about the start of the electoral process, It is not about resuming accounting and analytical work.

Context.

The State Voter Register was effectively frozen after 24 February 2022 for security reasons. During the war, Ukraine has undergone significant demographic changes, with millions of citizens becoming internally displaced or moving abroad.

The Verkhovna Rada has previously stated that any decisions on elections during martial law are possible only after a broad discussion involving the parliament, the CEC, experts and international partners.
