Double-decker passenger cars to be launched in Ukraine
У Ministry of Finance of Ukraine said that in 2026 launch is planned double-decker passenger cars as part of long-distance trains.
According to the agency, this initiative will allow optimise passenger transport costs and increase economic efficiency of Ukrzaliznytsia's operations.
Why new cars are being introduced
The double-decker cars will be able to carry twice as many passengers on the same routes, which will reduce the number of flights and maintenance costs.
The Ministry of Finance notes that the new rolling stock model will be energy-efficient, and its production is partially planned to be localised in Ukraine.
Outlook.
The first cars are to be tested as early as by the end of 2025, after which a gradual launch will begin on popular routes - primarily between Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa.
The project is being implemented as part of a transport infrastructure modernisation programme supported by European Investment Bank.
