Ministry of Defence launches new UAV procurement system
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is changing its approach to procuring drones for the army. Now, the need for drones will be formed by automatically based on data from the frontline, This will allow procurement of only those UAVs that have proven effective in combat conditions.
This was announced by the Minister of Defence of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov.
How the new system will work
According to the minister, the new procurement model should replace the practice of making decisions without a systematic assessment of the actual effectiveness of equipment on the battlefield.
Now:
General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine create a list of needs according to technical specifications
queries will not be tied to a specific manufacturer
the system will automatically identify the most efficient UAV models
What systems will analyse performance
The drone rating will be based on data from several digital systems used by the Ukrainian military:
eBalls - a system for assessing the effectiveness of equipment application
DOT-Chain - defence procurement platform
Brave1 Market - catalogue of military technologies
DELTA - situational awareness system
Mission Control - combat operations management system
What it will change
According to Fedorov, this approach will make it possible:
abandon inefficient procurement decisions
speed up delivery the most effective UAVs
create transparent rating of drones based on combat results
In fact, the procurement decision will now be based not on the manufacturers' proposals, but on on the actual performance of drones at the frontline.
