Pentagon and Gulf countries are interested in Ukrainian drone interceptors
The Pentagon and some Gulf countries are planning to purchase Ukrainian interceptor drones to combat Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones. This was reported by Financial Times.
According to the publication, the US military and allies are closely studying the Ukrainian experience of countering massive drone attacks, which was formed during Russia's war against Ukraine.
Ukraine has become an innovator in drone interception
Ukrainian engineers have developed A new approach to combating drone attacks - the use of low-cost interceptor drones capable of destroying enemy aircraft in the air.
Such systems can be mass-produced and cost only a few thousand dollars, making them a much cheaper alternative to traditional air defence systems.
The economics of drone warfare
One of the key reasons for the US interest was the difference in the cost of the weapons. A missile for the Patriot system can cost about $3.5 million, while the Iranian Shahed drone is estimated at about $30,000.
In such circumstances, the use of low-cost interceptors can significantly reduce air defence costs and respond more effectively to massive drone attacks.
Context.
Iran has amassed a significant stockpile of attack drones and is actively using them in conflicts in the Middle East. This forces the United States and its allies to look for new technological solutions to protect military bases and strategic infrastructure.
Ukraine's experience in countering the Shaheda is increasingly seen as one of the most effective examples of adaptation to modern drone warfare.
