To fully restore roads after the winter period, Ukraine will need significant funding in 2026. This was stated by Sergey Sukhomlin, Head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development.
Financing needs for road infrastructure
Serhiy Sukhomlyn said that approximately UAH 12-14 billion is needed to restore international and national roads. At the same time, restoration of local roads requires even more funding - up to UAH 40 billion.
No major repairs are planned
It is worth noting that the above amounts refer to repairs that will bring the roads to a more or less normal condition, but do not include major repairs. Thus, this is only a part of the necessary work to fully restore the road network.
Budget outlook for 2026
The budget for 2026 provides UAH 12.8 billion for road development and maintenance. In addition, another UAH 15 billion is allocated to service the debts accumulated during the Ukravtodor era.
Possible reallocation of funds
Sergiy Sukhomlyn noted that the government is considering options to reallocate these budget funds to increase funding for road repairs. This could help to partially cover the funding gap and accelerate the restoration of road infrastructure.
Thus, road repairs remain a priority for the government, especially given their critical condition after the winter. Timely and sufficient funding is key to ensuring safety and comfort on Ukraine's roads.
