Why food is getting more expensive
Economists name several key reasons for the price increase:
rising fuel costs due to escalating conflicts in the Middle East
Increased cost of logistics and transport
exchange rate fluctuations
Seasonal factors in the vegetable market
Increased energy costs for producers
The fuel component plays a particularly important role, as transport costs are included in the price of almost all products.
Context.
Along with rising food prices, instability in the energy markets is increasing. The escalation of conflicts in the Middle East is affecting the price of oil, which in turn is driving up fuel and transportation prices.
For Ukraine, this means higher prices for imported logistics, fertilisers and raw materials. As a result, the costs of producers and retailers are rising, which is reflected in the final prices for consumers.
