Draft law on elections to be ready by the end of February - Arakhamia

A draft law on elections in Ukraine is to be prepared until the end of February. This was stated by the head of the faction Servant of the people David Arahamia.

According to him, holding a separate referendum is unrealistic at the moment due to the ongoing war and the requirement for 50% turnout, The company's business is a complex one, which is difficult to ensure under martial law.

Referendum - together with presidential elections

Arakhamia noted that the most likely option is holding a referendum on the same day as the presidential election. This approach, he said, will allow:

  • provide representative turnout;

  • involve in voting of Ukrainians abroad;

  • minimise organisational and security risks.

The Chairman of the faction stressed that the final decisions on the format of the electoral process will be made taking into account the security situation and international recommendations.

Context.

The issue of drafting electoral legislation is being discussed against the backdrop of discussions on the possibility of holding elections after the active phase of the war is over and full democratic procedures are restored in Ukraine.
