Rada extends preferential import of electric vehicles

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved the extension of the preferential regime for the import of electric vehicles without customs clearance for another year. The initiative is aimed at supporting the development of electric transport.

Electric cars can be imported to Ukraine for another year without customs clearance - the Rada supported the amendment

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has supported an amendment to the current legislation that extends the preferential import of electric vehicles without customs clearance for another year.

The initiative envisages that Ukrainians and companies will be able to import electric vehicles without paying customs duties and VAT until the end of 2026.


The purpose of the benefit extension

According to MPs, the extension of duty-free imports of electric vehicles has several key objectives:

  • stimulate Demand for environmentally friendly transport;

  • reduce CO₂ emissions in cities;

  • support electric car owners and businesses operating in the field of green mobility.

The specialised committee notes that Previous incentives have contributed to the rapid growth of electric vehicle imports, and the development of charging station infrastructure.


What will remain unchanged

The draft law does not cancel other tax incentives for electric vehicles.
It also stores exemption from excise duty and Duties on components for the production of electric vehicles in Ukraine.

«We need to give people time and stable conditions to make electric cars available not only in big cities but also in the regions,» said one of the authors of the draft law.


Context.

A preferential regime for the import of electric vehicles has been in place in Ukraine since 2018.
During this time, the number of electric cars on Ukrainian roads increased more than 15 times, and the country has taken a leading position in Eastern Europe in terms of the pace of electric transport development.
