Russia has struck a massive blow to energy infrastructure in six regions - Energy Ministry

Russia has launched a massive combined attack on energy infrastructure facilities in a number of regions of Ukraine. This was reported by Ministry of Energy.

Kyiv, Kyiv region, Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava and Kharkiv were hit.


Scale of the blackout

According to the Ministry of Energy:

over 500,000 consumers power was cut off in the city of Kyiv;
more than 100,000 consumers - in the Kyiv region;
almost 8,000 users - in the Kharkiv region.

Several regions reported emergency damage to grids, substations and generation facilities.


Blackouts across the country

The Ministry of Energy reports that today in all regions of Ukraine apply schedules of hourly outages due to grid overload and electricity shortages.

Power engineers and emergency crews are working in an intensive mode. They are working on localising the damage and switching the load to backup lines.


Context.

Russian attacks on energy infrastructure have intensified in recent weeks. Substations, thermal power plants and trunk networks that supply power to large cities are being targeted.
The government urges citizens to use electricity sparingly in the evening.
