Network selling counterfeit equipment of well-known brands throughout Ukraine exposed

Law enforcement exposed a network selling counterfeit equipment of well-known international brands, which operated throughout Ukraine. This was reported in the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Details of the scheme

According to the investigation, individual entrepreneurs advertised and sold counterfeit equipment through websites. Buyers were offered:

• hair dryers,

• headphones,

• smartwatches,

• other electronic goods under the guise of original ones.

Order sent by postal operators throughout Ukraine.

Results of the searches

During the authorised searches of Kyiv region law enforcement officers seized over 4 thousand units of counterfeit and falsified products.

The investigation established that the goods had low quality, labelling and packaging did not meet the standards, manufacturing and branding were carried out without the permission of the copyright holders.

Damages incurred

Preliminary size material damage to international companies exceeds UAH 30 million. As a result of law enforcement actions the violated rights and interests of trademark owners were restored.

Legal aspect

Investigative actions are ongoing in the framework of criminal proceedings. Law enforcement agencies are identifying all persons involved in the organisation and operation of the scheme.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, According to the law, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court verdict.
