FIFA initiative
The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced the establishment of FIFA Peace Prizes (FIFA Peace Award), which will recognise «exceptional actions for peace».
The first award is scheduled for 5 December 2025 during World Cup draw in Washington, DC.
«Football has always been a symbol of unity, and now we want it to become a tool for peace,» said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The role of Ivanka Trump
According to media reports, FIFA recently appointed Ivanka Trump, daughter of the US president Donald Trump, to the board of a new educational project cost 100 million dollars.
The project is funded in part by ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The purpose of the new award
The Peace Prize should become a global symbol of solidarity and will be awarded to people or organisations that contribute to cessation of wars, humanitarian initiatives or interstate dialogue.
The organisers note that FIFA seeks to strengthen the image of sport as a tool for diplomacy in the context of global conflicts.
