Germany plans to increase aid to Ukraine by another €3bn in 2026

The German government intends to allocate additional funds to Ukraine in 2026 3 billion euros to support defence capability. This was reported by the newspaper Handelsblatt citing government sources.

According to the data, the funding will be used to purchase artillery systems, drones, armoured vehicles, and to replace two anti-aircraft missile systems Patriot, which were previously transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.


Allied support continues

As he clarifies Reuters, chancellor Friedrich Merz has already approved the allocation of funds within the defence budget for 2026. Germany remains one of Ukraine's key partners in Europe, particularly in the field of air defence and armoured vehicles.

Berlin had previously handed over several Patriot systems, Leopard 2 tanks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and hundreds of drones for reconnaissance and fire support to Kyiv.


What we know

According to the German Ministry of Defence, the country already plans to allocate about €8 billion to Ukraine in 2025, and the next budget increase will signal long-term support for Kyiv in the war against Russian aggression.
