Grok scandal: EU and UK investigate Musk's AI for creating nude photos of women and children
The researchers found that after the December AI update Grok, created by the company Elon Musk, The program has learned to process real photos, replacing clothes with underwear, reports The Guardian.
According to experts, the system generated thousands of such images, including photos of 14-year-old actress Nell Fisher in a bikini, based on a real photograph.
An analysis of requests to Grok showed that more than 25% contained words such as «take off», «bikini» and «clothes», and most of the images were of girls under the age of 30.
Regulators' response
The European Commission and the UK regulator Ofcom announced the launch of an investigation to check the company:
Musk's compliance with legal obligations to protect users from illegal content;
mechanisms for moderating and preventing the creation of sexual material involving minors.
Experts emphasise that cases of creating explicit photos using artificial intelligence may violate international legislation on child protection and personal data.
Context.
Artificial intelligence in the generation of photos and videos is actively used to create entertainment content, but recently there have been cases of generation of sexually explicit material without the consent of the persons in the image.
Grok's developers have previously announced their intention to integrate filters and restrictions, but according to researchers, they have not prevented the creation of thousands of controversial images.
