Ukraine in the near future increase electricity imports from EU countries to 2,300 megawatts, said the chairman of the NEC «Ukrenergo's Vitalii Zaichenko during a press conference.

Zaichenko noted that expanding import opportunities strengthen Resilience of the Ukrainian energy system during the period of massive Russian shelling, when the load on internal capacities increases.

«We will be able to receive up to 2300 MW of imported electricity. This will significantly increase the reliability of the system and allow us to restore the balance during peak hours faster,» said the CEO of Ukrenergo.

Limitations of bandwidth

At the same time, Zaichenko noted that Not all regions of Ukraine have sufficient technical capabilities to receive such volumes of electricity.

Problems remain primarily in southern and eastern regions, where damage to the grid following Russian attacks has hampered electricity transmission.

Ukraine imports electricity mainly from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, with which the power system has been synchronised since March 2012.
