Ireland will pay artists a basic income of $1500 per month from 2026

The Irish authorities have decided to make the programme the basic income for artists to be constant - starting from 2026, artists will receive $1500 monthly without any conditions or obligations. This was reported by the Business Insider.
Who can receive payments
Support will be provided not only to traditional artists or actors, but also to copywriters, designers, musicians, photographers, illustrators, screenwriters and other representatives of creative professions.
The programme aims to enable creators to focus on their work without financial pressure and instability.
Why Ireland took this step
According to the Ministry of Culture, art has a real social and economic impactIt improves mental health, reduces stress, stimulates tourism and creates a positive image of the country.
A study conducted during the pilot project showed that artists who received guaranteed income, produced more work, felt less burnout and were more likely to participate in public initiatives.
Context.
Ireland became the first country in the European Union to decide to fix a basic income for artists on a permanent basis. The pilot phase of the programme started in 2022 and covered about 2000 participants.
Now the government plans to expand it to the national level, with funding from the state budget and grant funds.
