In brief.. The Polish Border Guard Service reported that from 28 August to 28 September 2025, more than 56,000 Ukrainian citizens aged 18-22 entered Poland, and more than 19,200 left in the opposite direction during the same period. The flow of this age group in September increased more than 10 times compared to August. At the same time, this is the number of checks at the border, not unique individuals

How this data is calculated

The statistics reflect the number of checks at checkpoints, not the number of individuals. During the interim period of 28.08-19.09, about 52.9 thousand checks were recorded in the group of 18-22 year olds: approximately 40 thousand entries to Poland and over 13 thousand exits. Some citizens could cross the border several times

Why the surge occurred

The increase in flows coincided with the easing of travel rules for men aged 18-22 in late August, as well as the start of educational programmes and seasonal employment in September. Regional media reported a sharp increase in traffic at the Carpathian crossings

What it means

This is a short-term surge in youth mobility rather than an exact number of people. Further dynamics will depend on exit rules, study and work programmes, and seasonality; a longer series of official data is needed to draw correct conclusions
