160,000 USD for MP status: Kyiv detains official who «sold» a seat in parliament
Investigators of the Kyiv police served a notice of suspicion The 41-year-old leader of a political party, whose registration was cancelled by a court decision. The official promised the resident of Kyiv fictitious employment and assistance in «being elected as a people's deputy» for a monetary reward of 160 thousand US dollars.
According to the sources of ukrmedia.news, we are talking about Valeria Tokarya - Yanukovych-era businessman and little-known politician who tried to promote the Garant party.

The investigation established:
Tokar claimed that he «has access» to CEC members and influential politicians,
promised to organise fictitious employment in the party,
guaranteed «support and resolution of issues» in the process of election to the Verkhovna Rada,
received from the applicant 160 000 USD in two stages,
was detained after transferring the entire amount.
He is suspected of fraud and abuse of influence.
Court decision
The court imposed a preventive measure on the suspect:
detention,
with an alternative to collateral UAH 6,725,000.
If proven guilty, Tokar faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The party «Garant», which was headed by the suspect, did not actually conduct any activities and was excluded from the state register by a court decision.
The sale of parliamentary seats is one of the most common corruption schemes that law enforcement agencies have been recording in recent years.
