Deadly terrorist attack in Kyiv: police and SBU detain three men involved in explosion

Law enforcers detained three men, involved in a deadly terrorist attack in Kyiv. According to the investigation, they acted on the instructions of the «curator» from the russian Federation, who coordinated the preparation and execution of the crime.

The attackers manufactured Improvised remote explosive devices and placed them on the route of patrols by the National Guard. In addition, they installed mobile phones with real-time video streaming, to control the situation before the explosion.

Who was detained

The detainees are men 23, 25 and 27 years old, natives of Odesa and Donetsk regions, who came to Kyiv «to earn money». They worked as construction labourers, and at the same time were looking for «easy money» on Telegram, where they were recruited by Russian special services.

In the apartment they rented in the capital, SBU and police officers seized evidence of their involvement for the terrorist attack: components of explosive devices, telephones, correspondence with curators, as well as other materials confirming the preparation of the crime.

What punishment is threatened

For committing a terrorist act that resulted in the death of a person, the detainees face life imprisonment.

- Russian special services are actively using Telegram channels to recruit Ukrainians for subversive activities.
- In 2024-2025, the SBU repeatedly reported the prevention of similar terrorist attacks.
- The undermining of a National Guard patrol route is one of the largest acts of sabotage detected in recent months.
