Kyiv to allocate additional one billion hryvnias to strengthen air defence of the capital

The mayor of Kyiv announced a new funding package for air defence, with most of the money going to the troops defending the capital's skies.

Additional funds for air defence of the capital

Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko said that the city authorities plan to significantly increase funding for the capital's air defence. At its next session on 6 November, the Kyiv City Council will consider a draft decision to allocate another UAH 1 billion as part of the city's targeted programme «Defender of Kyiv».


How the funds will be distributed

  • UAH 900 million will be used to support military units engaged in air defence of Kyiv, and other units that protect the city from air attacks.

  • 100 million UAH - to ensure Volunteer formations of the territorial community (VFTC), that help protect the skies over the capital.


Mayor's statement

«I hope that Kyiv City Council members will gather for a session and support the adoption of the much-needed aid for our defenders,» said Klitschko.


Context.

Since the beginning of 2025, Kyiv has already allocated UAH 11 billion to support the military, veterans and their families. The bulk of the funds is aimed at strengthening the defence capability of the capital, in particular air defence systems, The Ukrainian army regularly shoots down Russian «shahids» and missiles over the city.
