Power cuts will not disappear even after the war - Ukrainians are advised to prepare for life with generators
Ukrainians should prepare themselves for the fact that situations without electricity and heating will remain part of everyday life even after the war is over. This was stated by the Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Renewable Energy Association Stanislav Ignatiev.
According to him, power outages in Ukraine will not disappear instantly, as:
The power grid suffered critical damage;
The infrastructure will take years to rebuild;
demand in winter will be consistently higher than available generation;
Ukraine is switching to new energy models that require adaptation.
«It's time to get used to generators»
Ignatiev emphasised that citizens and businesses should prepare in advance for scenarios without electricity, generators, battery stations, inverters and alternative sources will become the norm for a long time to come.
He advised:
install backup power supplies;
switch to energy-efficient appliances;
make plans for long-term power outages;
prepare for winters without stable heating.
Why the situation will remain challenging
The expert stressed that due to Russia's targeted strikes on critical infrastructure, the restoration of the entire system may take time 5-10 years, depending on the scale of investment and the pace of reconstruction.
