International concerns about the safety of Zaporizhzhya NPP

The International Atomic Energy Agency and the European Union have issued statements regarding threats to the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant under Russian occupation.

Large-scale risks for NPPs

The IAEA stressed that the situation at the plant remains extremely dangerous due to regular shelling and power outages. The agency reminded that any damage to the reactors or cooling systems could lead to catastrophic consequences.

EU position

The European Union called on Russia to immediately withdraw its troops from the territory of ZNPP and transfer the plant to full control of Ukraine. Brussels stressed that the use of a nuclear facility as a military tool is a gross violation of international law.

Ukraine's response

The Ukrainian government said it regularly informs its international partners about the situation at Zaporizhzhya NPP and demands tougher sanctions against Russia, which threatens nuclear safety across Europe.
