The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has decided to extension of martial law and general mobilisation until 4 May 2026.

Solution details

The majority of MPs voted for the relevant resolutions during the plenary session. The extension will be valid for another 90 days after the end of the previous term.

The decision was made against the backdrop of the ongoing full-scale war and the need to maintain the country's defence capability.

What does martial law entail?

The martial law regime allows the state to apply special legal mechanisms, in particular:

  • restriction of certain rights and freedoms of citizens;

  • enhanced security measures;

  • coordinating the actions of the authorities in times of war.

Mobilisation

The continuation of mobilisation ensures the manning of the Ukrainian Defence Forces and maintaining their combat capability. Mobilisation measures remain a key element of the country's defence policy.

When it will come into force

The resolutions will come into force after signature by the President of Ukraine and official publication.
