Russia launches Shakhtya at low altitudes - Syrsky

Russia has changed the tactics of using Shahed-type attack drones and started launching them at extremely low altitudes. This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky.

The enemy's new tactics

According to Syrsky, the enemy is trying to complicate the work of Ukrainian air defence by flying drones at minimum altitudes.

This approach allows drones to be used:

  • stay under the radar for longer,

  • bypassing some of the air defence systems,

  • make interception more difficult.

Ukraine's response

Ukrainian forces are adapting to new tactics. Domestic interceptor drones are increasingly playing a key role in countering the Shahed.

According to the Commander-in-Chief, this is the first time such drones have been used in just a month:

  • carried out about 6300 flights,

  • destroyed more than 1500 enemy UAVs.

Strengthening «small air defence»

Syrsky said that the formation of so-called «small air defence» units is underway.

In addition, Ukrainian helicopters are being further equipped to combat small air targets more effectively.

Context.

Russia regularly changes its tactics of using kamikaze drones in an attempt to overwhelm Ukraine's air defence system. In response, Ukraine is building up a multi-level interception system - from classical air defence to mobile and unmanned assets.
