Vasyl Malyuk has agreed to resign as head of the Security Service of Ukraine. This was reported by the Ukrainian Pravda with reference to informed sources.
Possible successor
According to the publication, the main candidates for the post of the new head of the SBU are Yevhen Khmara, Major General and current Head of the SBU Special Operations Centre «A».
Details of the case
No official decree on the dismissal of Malyuk or the appointment of a new head of the SBU has been made public as of yet. It is expected that the relevant personnel decisions may be made in the near future.
Context.
Vasyl Malyuk headed the Security Service of Ukraine during a full-scale war, when the agency played a key role in counterintelligence, combating sabotage and internal threats. The Special Operations Centre «A», currently headed by Yevhen Khmara, is considered one of the most combat-oriented and secretive units of the SSU.
