Founder of SpaceX Elon Musk said that one of the fundamental reasons for creating the company was the desire to prepare humanity for a possible encounter with extraterrestrial civilisations.
He said this during a public speech, commenting on the philosophy and long-term goals of the space company.

According to Musk, the idea SpaceX from the very beginning went beyond commercial space exploration or satellite launches.
«One of the basic motivations was the desire to prepare for a potential encounter with a UFO,» he said.
The businessman added that the development of space technologies is a key element in the survival and evolution of civilisation.
Star Trek as a vision of the future
Musk also emphasised that he wants to make the Star Trek universe a reality. In his opinion, many ideas that were previously considered science fiction eventually become scientific facts.
He is convinced that interstellar travel, contact with other life forms and the expansion of human presence in the universe is not a matter of «if» but of "when".
