Objects of attack

On the night of 8 November, Russian troops conducted a powerful wave of attacks on the Ukrainian oil and gas and energy infrastructure in a number of areas Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Kyiv, and formerly Chernihiv regions.
The following facilities were also damaged power engineers in Dnipro, Kyiv and Poltava regions.

Products used

According to Ukrainian forces, the enemy used it:

  • missile systems: Iskander-M, Iskander-K, Dagger, missiles from S-300 systems, probably KN-23;

  • Kamikaze attack drones: «Geranium-2», Shahed-138, «Harpy-A1»;

  • simulation UAVs of the «Gerbera», «Parody».


Key areas of focus

Main targets - districts Kremenchuk, Dnipro, northern Poltava, Kyiv, Slobozhanske, as well as facilities in Kharkiv region, the frontline in Kherson and Dnipro regions, around Nizhyn and along the border between Chernihiv and Kyiv regions.


Context and implications

Analysts believe that this is one of the most massive attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure since the start of the full-scale invasion: a combination of a massive missile strike and a large number of drones.
Ukraine's energy and gas companies are working in a state of emergency to minimise damage to systems and ensure supply of resources in the winter.
