McDonald's operates as an «Unbreakable Point»: charging gadgets, Wi-Fi and a place to warm up

McDonald's has stated that a number of its outlets are «the point of invincibility» - places where people can charge mobile devices, connect to Wi-Fi and temporarily warm up.
The company said in a statement that such locations are available to those who find themselves in a difficult situation due to power outages, cold weather or other emergency circumstances.

«Our restaurants are open for people who need to recharge their gadgets, surf the internet or find a warm place to stay for a while,» the McDonald's press service said.

What services are provided at the Invincibility points

According to the company, such facilities are usually available:

  • charging points for phones and small devices;

  • free Wi-Fi for communication and assistance;

  • warm zones in the hall for temporary stay;

  • in some cases, the opportunity to purchase warm drinks or food on a limited basis.

These are not full-fledged crisis centres, the company emphasises: restaurants provide mainly basic services, that help people stay connected and provide minimal comfort.

Who can apply and how to behave

Items are intended for people who temporarily need basic services - For example, to residents of areas with diminished power supply or those waiting for evacuation or assistance.
The company asks visitors to respect staff and other people, follow safety rules and not occupy charging points for longer than necessary.

«We ask you to use the services responsibly and contact local assistance services if necessary,» McDonald's added.

Context: why it matters

Initiatives such as the Unbreakable are becoming increasingly important in regions where power outages or extreme weather conditions are common. Spacious, heated areas with access to communications help people keep in touch with their families, call for medical help and receive up-to-date information from local authorities.
