Microsoft blocks KMS activation of Windows 11
Microsoft has released an update for Windows 11 that closes one of the most famous illegal activation schemes - use of KMS activators.
This was reported by the project developers Massgrave, who created the popular tool KMS38.
What happened
According to Massgrave:
Microsoft has updated the licensing verification mechanism in Windows 11;
change completely block activation keys, that were created using KMS38;
the system now sees fake activation as invalid, even if the computer is offline.
KMS38 was a method of bypassing official Windows activation, allowing users to obtain «licence» until 2038 - That is, 14 years in advance.
How the scheme worked
KMS activators simulated a corporate activation server (Key Management Service), so that Windows:
accepted counterfeit keys,
considered the device to be part of the corporate network,
continued to work with the activated status no need for a permanent internet connection.
Since it was KMS38 that was widely used, the blocking actually stops all options for «long-term» illegal activation.
Context.
Microsoft has been stepping up its fight against illegal keys in recent years:
Windows 11 receives regular key validation checks;
The use of third-party activators is increasingly leading to system errors;
in future versions of Windows it is expected complete rejection of offline activations.
Massgrave has officially confirmed that «KMS38 no longer works on current Windows 11 builds».
