Details of the verdict

High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine sentenced former SFS head Roman Nasirov to 6 years in prison in a case related to the activities of companies of a former MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko.
This is reported by the Public with reference to the court decision.

According to the investigation, Nasirov in 2015-2016 illegally granted tax deferrals to companies controlled by Onishchenko, than caused losses to the state of more than UAH 2 billion.


Punishment.

Court finds official guilty under article «abuse of power or position» and appointed:

  • 6 years in prison,

  • a fine of UAH 17,000,

  • a ban on holding public office for three years.

«The court concluded that the defendant deliberately exceeded his authority by providing illegal benefits to commercial structures,» the verdict reads.


Context.

Roman Nasirov was dismissed from his post as head of the SFS in 2018 following a corruption scandal.
His case was one of the first high-profile audits of fiscal authorities after the establishment of the NABU.

Nasirov has repeatedly denied his guilt, calling the case «politically motivated».
The defence has already announced its intention to file an appeal.
