NATO plans to close skies over western Ukraine
According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, Western politicians and the military have proposed a partial ban on flights over the western part of Ukraine. The initiative is to be considered at a meeting in Copenhagen tomorrow.
Possible expansion to Kyiv
The newspaper's sources note that the option of extending this ban to Kyiv is also being discussed. The goal is to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure and the population from Russian missile and drone attacks.
What we know before
The idea of establishing “safe zones” in the skies over Ukraine has been repeatedly voiced by a number of Western politicians, but has remained a subject of debate due to the risk of direct collision with Russian forces.
It is expected that more details on the possible formats for the implementation of this initiative will be available after the meeting in Copenhagen.
