Artem Nekrasov appointed Acting Minister of Energy
The Government of Ukraine has decided to appoint Artem Nekrasov acting Minister of Energy. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy. Nekrasov, who had been working as the First Deputy Minister for a long time, automatically took over the management of the department after personnel changes in the Cabinet of Ministers. He will be responsible for coordinating all the work of the Ministry until the Verkhovna Rada makes a decision on a new full-fledged minister.
Who is Artem Nekrasov?
Nekrasov has been working in the energy sector for over a decade, focusing on electricity market reform, integration of the Ukrainian power system into the European grid and development of renewable energy sources. As First Deputy Minister, he was responsible for the day-to-day management of the Ministry, as well as interaction with generation operators, state-owned companies and international partners.
The context of the appointment
The government's decision comes amid heightened attention to the energy sector, which is undergoing a period of extreme stress due to massive Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers is undergoing personnel rotations, which have temporarily put ministries into a stabilisation mode. The Verkhovna Rada even temporarily suspended its work today for consultations between the government and the parliamentary leadership.
Why this position is important now
The acting Energy Minister is responsible for managing the power system in the face of regular attacks, coordinating with Ukrenergo, generation and regional power companies, as well as international negotiations on assistance to Ukraine in the form of equipment and fuel to stabilise the energy sector in the winter. Nekrasov's appointment guarantees the continuity of management processes during a critical situation.
Next steps
It is expected that the Verkhovna Rada will soon consider the candidacy of a new minister, but for the transitional period, Nekrasov will coordinate key decisions in the energy sector. The Ministry of Energy emphasises that the department's work continues as usual.
