Germany to strengthen Ukraine's air defence, but without Taurus missiles - Pistorius

Germany has committed to Strengthen Ukraine's air defence in the short term. This was stated by the Minister of Defence of Germany Boris Pistorius following a meeting of partners in the Ramstein format.

According to him, in the coming days, the allies will confirm the previously announced steps to help Ukraine.

What the German Defence Minister said

Pistorius stressed that Berlin is actively working to strengthen its support for Kyiv:

«I hope our partners will confirm in the coming days what they announced yesterday as possible assistance to Ukraine. We are working very hard on this. Especially Germany, we are really doing a lot and will continue to do so.».

Taurus missiles will not be transferred to Ukraine

Despite the expansion of air defence assistance, the German authorities does not plan to transfer long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

The issue of their supply has long been a subject of political debate in Germany, but Berlin's official position has not changed.

Context.

Strengthening Ukraine's air defence is one of the of Kyiv's key requests against the backdrop of regular Russian missile and drone attacks on energy and cities.

The Ramstein format remains the main coordination platform military assistance to Ukraine by the allies.
