Novhorod-Siverskyi loses power after massive drone attack

As a result of a night attack by more than 20 UAVs in the Chernihiv region, Novhorod-Siverskyi was completely cut off from electricity. The city was left without electricity, water and communication, and the situation is said to be worse than in 2022.

Drone attack and the consequences

On 21 October, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Chernihiv region. The critical infrastructure of Novhorod-Siverskyi was hit.
According to preliminary data, the Russians launched more than 20 drones - Most of them hit power system facilities.

The city in its entirety was left without electricity, water and mobile communications. According to local residents, the temperature in their homes is dropping rapidly, and heating stations are overloaded.


Worse than in 2022

Local authorities report that the level of damage to critical infrastructure exceeds the impact of the 2022 attacks.

«The region's power system is virtually non-operational. We have a complete blackout in several communities,» the Chernihiv Regional State Administration said in a statement.

Recovery teams are working under fire, and due to the scale of the damage, the timeframe for the liquidation of the consequences has not yet been determined.


Enhanced patrols and assistance to people

Due to the difficult situation Police, National Guard and volunteers intensified patrolling of the territory.
Patrol routes are close to «Points of invincibility», where residents can keep warm, charge their phones and get hot food.

At the main intersections of Novhorod-Siverskyi there are traffic controllers, to avoid accidents due to the lack of traffic lights.
