Novovoronezh NPP attacked by drones: the plant temporarily reduced its capacity - Rosatom«
Head of Rosatom« Alexey Likhachev said that by Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant an attempted drone attack was made in the Voronezh region. The incident took place the night before last.
According to him, Russian air defence «shot down» the drones on approach, but their Debris damaged the switchgear, This resulted in a temporary reduction in the NPP's power output.
Details of the incident
According to Likhachev:
drones tried to attack the territory of the NPP;
The wreckage of the downed UAVs damaged electrical distribution centre;
This led to the station's transition to reduced level of generation;
to 11:00 the next day Novovoronezh NPP has returned to the rated power.
The Russian side has not released details on the extent of the damage or the type of drones involved in the attack.
Context.
The Novovoronezh NPP is one of the most important energy facilities in central Russia. The Kremlin claims an increase in the number of drone attacks on strategic targets deep in Russian territory, while the Ukrainian side traditionally does not comment on attacks on Russian infrastructure.
Damage to energy facilities poses risks to the stability of the Russian energy system, especially in winter.
