The largest beer festival in the world has been urgently closed in Munich «Oktoberfest», The government of Ukraine has been forced to take measures to prevent attacks.
On the night of 1 October, explosions and gunshots were heard in the northern part of the city. Police conducted a large-scale special operation that resulted in the death of a man who, according to investigators, could have been making explosive devices.
At the same time, law enforcement officers received threatening letter, The news was about car arsons and possible attacks on festival-goers.
Reaction of the authorities and police
Munich police have decided close Oktoberfest at least by 17:00 local time, while the area is being checked for explosives. Employees and visitors were evacuated.
Law enforcement is also checking threats published on a radical website called «Antifa means attack», where unknown persons stated their intention to set fire to cars and attack people. The police do not rule out the possibility of left-wing radical trail.
Nevertheless, law enforcement officials said that currently there is no evidence of a direct threat to the public, However, security measures remain heightened.
Incident in the city
The night before the festival closed, another tragic incident occurred. A local resident set fire to his parents' house, detonated explosives and opened fire. As a result, one person was killed, another was injured, and the attacker committed suicide.
It is not yet known whether these events are related to the threats against Oktoberfest.
