New ChatGPT features: emotions, friendliness, freedom of style

CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman has announced ambitious updates to ChatGPT that are designed to change the way the system interacts with users. In particular, the chat will be able to:

• Adapt your tone and style to the needs of your users.

These steps are part of a new approach that OpenAI calls the «treat adult users like adults» principle.

A step towards eroticism: when and under what conditions

According to Altman, in December, a regime will be introduced in which verified adult users will have access to erotic materials and role-playing scenarios, subject to policies and rules.

However, OpenAI's policy currently only allows the generation of erotica in certain contexts (creative, news, artistic assignments) and within the limits that do not violate the rules of use - in particular, content with minors or involuntary scenes is always prohibited.

It is also noted that stricter age verification and restrictions will be introduced before activating such functions.

Potential risks and the balance of freedom and security

The planned changes have been criticised by experts:

• Control of minors: Even with age verification, it is difficult to ensure that younger users do not access sensitive content.

• Moral and ethical boundaries: How to avoid abuse, such as unwanted or aggressive scenes.

• Technical and moderating challenges: providing filters, monitoring and responding to breaches - all of this greatly complicates the operational side.

OpenAI has already partially relaxed the rules of the Spec model, allowing «sensual content» in certain contexts, but strictly prohibiting scenes with underage persons.

This could be an important step towards more personalised AI, but also a major challenge in terms of ethics and moderation.
