Pope Leo XIV says Trump is trying to weaken the US-European alliance with his statements
The Pope Leo XIV said that the comments of the US President Donald Trump about the weakness of European leaders and the «decline of Europe» have a direct negative impact on the long-standing alliance between the United States and the European Union. This was reported by Sky News.
According to the Pontiff, such statements have already «led to significant shifts» in relations between the two sides, which have traditionally been the foundation of Western security.
«Such statements undermine trust»
Commenting on Trump's statements, the Pope stressed that, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine, the world needs unity, not public accusations.
«What we hear today are not just words. It is a gas that fuels the fire of mistrust. Such statements have already led to dangerous changes in trust between allies,» said Leo XIV.
He added that Europe and the United States share a common history and responsibility that cannot be questioned by political statements.
