Ukrainian delegation sums up trilateral talks and expects exchange of prisoners
The Ukrainian delegation reported on the results of today's trilateral talks with representatives of Ukraine, the United States and Russia. The discussion of the interim results took place after a series of meetings and contacts with the American side.
This was announced by the President of Ukraine, who stressed that the negotiation process would continue the next day.
Who reported on the progress of the negotiations
According to the Head of State, the following persons were in touch Rustem Umerov, Kirill Budanov and David Arahamia.
They presented information on the course of the meetings, contacts with partners and key interim results of the negotiations.
Ukraine expects exchange of prisoners of war in the near future
Separately, the report discussed the possible exchange of prisoners of war, which may take place in the near future. The Ukrainian side emphasises the need to return the defenders home as one of the humanitarian priorities of the negotiation process.
The topic of prisoners of war has traditionally been one of the most sensitive in the dialogue between the parties to the war.
Ukraine's position on ending the war
The President emphasised that Ukraine's position was clear and unchanged The war must be ended in reality, and not declaratively. At the same time, it is Russia, as the aggressor state, that should be ready to end hostilities.
Ukraine's international partners should play a key role in this. We are talking about:
real security guarantees
Increased political and economic pressure on Russia
Practical steps that will show that peace is coming
The Ukrainian authorities emphasise that citizens should to feel real progress towards the end of the war, instead of watching Russia's attempts to use the talks to its advantage and continue its attacks.
No reward for the aggressor
Kyiv's principled position is also emphasised: There can be no reward for the aggressor state. The Ukrainian side believes that any concessions to Russia will only create preconditions for the disruption of future agreements and a new round of aggression.
That is why the negotiation process is seen not as a compromise at any cost, but as a way to a just and secure peace.
